The gastronomy

Barcelona offers the visitor a wide range of restaurants, bars, cafeterias or cake shops where one can find out the richness of the Catalan cuisine as well as a big offer of world gastronomies. However, if you really want to taste the Catalan traditional dishes, the best thing to do is walk around the main street markets in Barcelona. In the middle of the Rambla you will find the Mercat de la Boqueria. There you will see all the best ingredients of the Mediterranean cuisine. If you want to go to a restaurant, each season has its own typical dishes: In Spring there are the “calçots” (long typical onions), in Autumn one finds all types of mushrooms, and in Winter “escudella” and “carn d’olla” (traditional soup made with chicken stock). All year round, Catalan people have “pà amb tomàquet” (bread with spread tomato on it), “butifarra” (typical pork sausage), “canelons” (cannelloni), all kinds of rices, “mariscadas” (sea food), and desserts such as “crema catalana” (sort of crème brûlée).
